RoboCup
For five days last week in the North German town of Bremen, the shouts of World Cup fans were replaced by the raucous cheers for robot soccer mavens. The 10-year-old RoboCup featured more than 400 teams from 36 countries competing for various prizes, and if the result was a little wobbly at times, it was never boring. This year's entries even featured a little high-tech sex appeal, with a shapely bot named Lara whose wiry muscles are hot.

Robogames 2006
San Francisco's Ft Mason center burned through over $3000 worth of kilowatts in the event that is the highlight of the amateur robotics world- the Robogames 2006. Competitions ranged from tiny autonomous sumo bots pushing each other out of very small black rungs to to 300lbs brutes that shoot fire.
